Long Beach, Calif – The 6th annual CANstruction will be held from October 10th – 20th at MADE by Millworks on Pine Avenue in downtown Long Beach. The event is put on by Food Finders each year to help collect canned goods for local shelters and food pantries.
The year’s theme is “One Can, Two Can, Who Can? You Can!” where the competing teams were challenged to build Dr. Suess themed structures out of canned goods.
The 2019 participants are:
- P2S Engineering / MHP Structural Engineers / Swinerton Engineers
- M4 Aerospace Engineering
- Long Beach Water Department
- Studio 111 / Retail Design Collaborative
“Food Finders is excited to be the beneficiary of the 6th annual Long Beach CANstruction”, said Patti Larson, Executive Director of Food Finders. “Last year’s event generated a 10,000 pound plus donation of canned goods, and this unique event will continue to heighten awareness of food insecurity in our community and will play an important role in helping to feed those in need in our own backyard.”
Although CANstruction is an event designed to give back there is an element of competition to it. The teams are encouraged to put forth their best effort because a panel of judges will be judging them and awarding prizes for: ” Structural Ingenuity”, “Best Use of Labels”, “Most Cans”, “Best Meal” and “Juror’s Favorite”.
The sculptures will be displayed at MADE by Millworks until October 20th. Long Beach residents are encouraged to bring canned goods with them when checking out the sculptures to participate in the voting process. Bins will be placed next to each sculpture so that visitors can choose the “People’s Choice” winner.
